We will photograph some of the most beautiful Sedona locations, including one rarely visited ancient site, where we will photograph hundreds of pictographs and petroglyphs, the “writing” of the “Ancient Ones”. Along the way we discuss how to approach your composition along with some technical aspects of photography. I feel like my strength in photography has always been “seeing” the world and the subjects I shoot in a little bit of a different way. I like to show my participants how to “see” and notice the detail that makes up the beauty of a location and Sedona is the perfect place for this. Of course, we will photograph one of the most iconic scenes in all of the Southwest at sunset. Sedona has become more known for it’s sunsets than sunrises so we will meet in the late morning and do our “meet & greet” then head over to Boyton Canyon and hike* into the “secret” location before it gets too hot. (I can direct you to the main sunrise shooting spot that overlooks the town of Sedona if you are dead set on a sunrise shot but it is not part of this workshop) At our 1st location we will shoot amazing rock art from ancient times. We will spend a few hours here and then if times allows we will visit a unique ruin right next door. To beat the heat of midday we will break for lunch or a siesta and then we reassemble in the late afternoon for our sunset shoot at one of the Arizona’s most photogenic locations; Red Rock Crossing – Cathedral Rock – maybe Ma Nature will reward us with some amazing clouds and a perfect sunset at this iconic photo location. We will shoot until the light has faded and you will end the day with some amazing photos of one of the most beautiful and lush spots in the American Southwest.
In an effort to keep my Photo Workshops affordable I try keep them as simple as possible while providing you with a truly rich photo experience that will last for years. We meet at a specified location in the late morning and either ride together or carpool to our locations, especially the ones with day fees, this helps to keep the workshop fee lower and locations aren’t too far from each other around Sedona. “The “Red Rock & Ruins” Photo Workshop in Sedona was fantastic – you really exceeded my expectations! The locations that you selected really had breathtaking views! Your knowledge of the area along with your advice on the shots really made the workshop outstanding. I hope to have the opportunity to attend one of your other workshops in the future!” – John , Phoenix
*This workshop requires some rugged hiking on rough trails to a remote ancient ruin while carrying your camera gear. A moderate fitness level is recommended as well as proper footwear. Keep in mind that we will be at an altitude of about 5,000 ft and that can be an issue for some participants. This is the desert and it can get VERY hot so please be prepared for that.
