Sedona, Arizona One Day Photo Workshop
“Red Rock & Ruins”
Currently this workshop is only offered as a Private Workshop – all it takes is 1 person or a small group and I am yours for a “Magical Red Rock” Day!
Also available: “Red Rock & Rusty Goodness” 1 Day Photo Workshop – we start in Jerome and end in Sedona. Pricing is below.
Only in Sedona for one or two days but still want to photograph some of Sedona’s iconic locations? Then this workshop is for you! Join Acclaimed Photographer and Outdoor Photographer Magazine contributor, Cheyenne L Rouse for this limited engagement Photo Workshop to one of the most scenic locations in the Great American Southwest.
We will photograph some of the most beautiful Sedona locations, including one rarely visited ancient ruin, along the way we discuss how to approach your composition along with some technical aspects of photography. I feel like my strength in photography has always been “seeing” the world and the subjects I shoot in a little bit of a different way. I like to teach my students how to “see” and notice the detail that makes up the beauty of a location and Sedona is the perfect place for this. Of course, we will photograph some of the iconic scenes in all of their glory and try to capture some of the detail at the same time, just for a twist on how you may have seen photos of Sedona before. Sedona has become more known for it’s sunsets than sunrises so we will meet in the late morning and do our “meet & greet” then head over to Boyton Canyon and hike* into the “secret” ruin known as “Lost Ruin” before it gets too hot. (I can direct you to the main sunrise shooting spot that overlooks the town of Sedona if you are dead set on a sunrise shot but it is not part of this workshop) Then to beat the heat of midday we will break for lunch or a siesta (or HDR Class if you choose this option) and then we reassemble in the late afternoon for our sunset shoot at one of the Arizona’s most photogenic locations; Red Rock Crossing area. Here we will walk to a few different locations (a surprise sunset spot was just added) and shoot until the light has faded and you will end the day with some amazing photos of one of the most beautiful and lush spots in the American Southwest. *This workshop requires some rugged hiking on rough trails to a remote ancient ruin while carrying your camera gear. A moderate fitness level is recommended as well as proper footwear. Keep in mind that we will be at an altitude of about 5,000 ft and that can be an issue for some participants. This is the desert and it can get VERY hot so please be prepared for that.
In an effort to keep my Photo Workshops affordable I try keep them as simple as possible while providing you with a truly rich photo experience that will last for years. We will meet at a specified location in the late morning and carpool to our locations, especially the ones with day fees, this helps to keep the workshop fee lower and locations aren’t too far from each other around Sedona. What gear is required for a shoot like this?
HI Melissa – I would bring a few lenses…..my wide angle (17mm) and my 70-200 lens….those are my two faves and let you capture BOTH the wide scenic vistas as well as the detail. A lightweight tripod is good too……to get those tack sharp shots or if you will be shooting multiple exposures for post processing. And last but not least the most important thing to bring is enthusiasm and a BIG sense of adventure and FUN! I hope to see you!!!!
sounds great! I will be there in June! YAY!
Cheyenne,
How much water should I bring? (I’m planning on joining you on 7/14/12.)
I have a “half” backpack (one shoulder) for all my camera gear. I have a waist pack that will hold 1liter of water, but will that be enough? I have seen these backpack water carriers that hold more water, but I can’t wear that and my camera back back too. So I’m trying to figure out what gear I need to have enough water. My wife and I have hiked in Sedona in the past, but always in March or May. I’m guessing July will be more challenging!
