I know when I shop I like to know that my purchases are making a difference somehow. You might be wondering what Parkinson’s disease has to do with me. My Father has been living with Parkinson’s for several years now. In August of 2012 he was approved for and underwent the risky “DBS” (Deep Brain Stimulation) surgery in S FL. It was amazing, I spoke to him right after the surgery, he was wide awake for the whole procedure. He told me that the music was really loud and that he suggested to the Dr that the drill needed a new bit because it seemed to take forever to drill through his skull….aggg…gross, I know. But he was in such good spirits and as the weeks passed his severe shaking got less and less. He was like a new man and he and his wife decided to Carpe Diem even more than they already did.  The both are very well traveled but they decided to take a month long trip to France and just go where they felt like going with no particular schedule. Before they left for France he informed us that if the opportunity arose that they might just stay longer. Go for it Daddy, I thought, you have a 2nd lease on life so LIVE IT! So they did with GUSTO! About 6 months ago some of his symptoms returned but mostly he was starting to have a hard time putting sentences together and it took him a long time to get out of bed in the morning. This insidious disease was making a comeback but in different ways this time. My Dad loves to fish and the photo below was not long after his surgery. Let’s find a cure for this horrible affliction so my Dad can keep doing what he loves to do as well as so many others struggling with this disease.

I wanted to help and I thought a great way to help was to do a holiday promotion. I asked my Dad which Parkinson’s disease foundation he liked and would recommend. Yes, there are several very large, well known Foundations, but I wanted to get my Dad’s input. He said he liked the APDA – American Parkinson Disease Association. He felt like they were really progressive with their research and gave them loads of praise. From November 1st through December 30th any purchase you make from me I will donate a portion of the proceeds to the APDA. It can be a purchase from my online gallerybookstoregift shopEtsy shop, from one of my art shows in Scottsdale, or even one of my Photo Workshops – any purchase!!!! On December 31st I will tally up the total and make a year end donation to the APDA. I will post it on Facebook for all to see. What a great and helpful way to wrap up 2013!
